SILENT ROOTS

In this collection, Supported by a grant from the City of Oulu, I present artworks representing two critically endangered mushroom species native to the Oulu region of Finland. Their populations have drastically declined due to habitat destruction and human activity.

Through this body of work, I aim to highlight that Finland has long been a home to these species, which have lived alongside us for centuries. They have the right to continue existing in their natural habitats, just as they always have. The works also draw attention to the often-overlooked small-scale life around us, these mushrooms are less than five centimeters in size in nature, yet their presence is vital to the ecosystem.
